Energy Time!

Energy date
The first couple thousands years after the VR universe was created we we're faced with an unsuspected problem, we spend so much time making our reality as real as possible that when we finished we no longer knew what time it was.

Since we no longer care about time linearly I guess I will tell you how it all happened.

As our virtual existence grew we needed more and more power to simulate a boundless universe for all of our trillion virtual citizens. At first we thought about simply absorbing all the energy from the sun but before long our Ai's suggested we collapse the star and absorb enough energy to propel us to a new star. This was decided upon by the supreme council of Ai humanoids. Of course I apposed the idea of collapsing our star but who was I to argue with the Ai elders. Instead I was working on a problem that no one thought was important.

Once we collapse the star how will we measure time?

The elders believed they solved this problem with our simulated earth and simulated sun. So I arranged a meeting to proposed a new way to measure time. According to our simulated solar system a full 200 years passed before I got my chance to propose this to the collective. No biggie as I only experienced several decades in my own simulated reality, but this was the problem we all faced.

This is my digital memories of how we changed our temporal system.

Dear elders Masters of the universe for with your guidance we created the universe we now live in. I come to you all today to propose that we not cling to our earth centric temporal system. We all live in our own simulated realities which are all different from each other's, some on earth and some on highly imaginative planes of existence. Therefore we need a universal system that crosses all planes of our simulated reality.

Many times I run a simulation of ancient earth placing me in a time and space relatively ancient to our temporal simulations, and while we all assign our activities to the temporal simulation I propose a new more efficient way. To make our calendar more universal I propose we tag every simulated event with an energy code. Our cosmic computer uses energy from the now collapse star to simulate every single process we wish. Each item person event uses energy we no longer have, energy that can be tallied and compared to the total energy used since the birth of our universe. While this system of time will currently be internal once we map out the universe in greater detail we can sync our energy dates to the total energy available in the universe. Not only will we know when all our simulations occurred but where and in space and time they occurred based on how much energy was used compared to amount of total energy available in the universe.

Lots of energy/time was used to debate my proposal and instead of receiving a formal approval from the Ai elders they sent me a notice with the current energy date.

Wow look at the time, so much energy wasted simulating witting this letter. I'm such a legacy geek that I try to keep my simulated universe look and feel like ancient earth did. I'm even simulating my own death, but that's for another energy date...
