The Future of Futurism

Who is a futurist?  The truth is, you are!  We are all  futurist by nature.

There's existed a time when I strongly admired those that proclaimed themselves to be futurists. The dedication and mindset of those involved appeared as a refreshing dose of scientific rationalism. But as I steadily absorbed the concepts proposed by prominent "futurist" I realized that what they presented was but a sliver of potential outcomes from the convergence of, not just technology, but minds, ideas, and philosophies. Over time, I started to have problems with futurism in general - as it slowly began to dive into scenarios that are proposed simply based on technological trends and void of cultural trends, mental diversity, and so forth. This frustration only grew as the Internet debates slowly became nonsensical arguments over the semantics of what the singularity will and will not be. But of course, I have already explored this with my article, "You Don't Own the Future". So, what is a futurist?

Once you've seen the movies, read the books, and heard the lectures - what do you think the future actually has in store for us?

Well now that you are a futurist, you are able to answer. As for me, I will explore the future with a different approach and if this is not the future you envision, well, then you are welcome to create your own.  After all, futurism is just make believe for grown ups :D
