Web Bots Alert Networks

A Temporal Alert System is a system designed to predict future states for complex computational systems.

Since we currently don’t know at which velocity the processes of rapid technological change may occur, we must prepare for all possible scenarios. One such scenario is the concept of a “hard take-off [lesswrong.com].”

A Temporal Alert System is a system designed to predict future states for complex computational systems.  This would allow planet Earth to predict technological growth patterns and provide greater insight into the potential paths that technology could diverge into. This process will help navigate us toward a positive singularity.

This system will cooperate with Humanity to avoid future states that end in an extinction level event (aka E.L.E.) event.  In a hard take-off scenario, the probability of a negative singularity is increased in the absence of a system that can steer growth away from doom.

  • Singularity: A Hypothetical point in the future that exceeds comprehension.
  • Positive Singularity: The ability for any sentient being to exist in any desired state.
  • Negative Singularity: Deadlock or Livelock

Planetary Defense  and the  Temporal Alert System
The temporal Alert system is a subset of  system which need to be  established to help reduce any kind of threat to the core of the species heading into a rapid technological growth.

The Web Bot technology apparently taps in to an area of pre-conscious awareness.

“A system of spiders, agents, and wanderers travel the Internet, much like a search engine robot, and  look for particular kinds of words.  It targets discussion groups, translation sites, and places were regular people post a lot of text.

When a "target word" was found, or something that was lexically similar, the web bots take a small 2048 byte snip of surrounding text and send it to a central collection point.  The collected data at times approached 100 GB sample sizes and we could have used terabytes.  The collected data was then filtered, using at least 7-layers of linguistic processing in Prolog, which was then reduced to numbers and then a resultant series of scatter chart plots on multiple layers of Intellicad ( http://www.cadinfo.net/icad/icadhis.htm ).  Viewed over a period of time, the scatter chart points  tended  to coalesce into highly concentrated areas. Each dot on the scatter chart might represent one word or several hundred.
To define meanings, words or groups of words have to be reduced to their essence.  You know how lowest common denominators work in fractions, right?  Well the process is like looking for least common denominators among groups of words.
The core of the technology therefore is to look at how the scatter chart points cluster - condensing into high "dot density" areas which we call "entities" and then dissolving or diffusing over time as the entities change. Do a drill down into a dot and you get a series of phrases...
Our first published work in the area occurred in early July of 2001 and is available at http://www.urbansurvival.com/tip.htm.
What becomes obvious when reading about the technology is that it sometimes reads a bit like the I Ching (the Chinese Book of Changes) because the technology doesn't come out and say "go look for a terrorist attack over there"  What it does is gives phrases that would be associated with how people talk about an event, or more accurately, how they change their speech to reflect their thought processes because of an event (after).””

Here at Half Past Human we forecast the future.  We are not alone in forecasting the future, all humans do it to some degree. Just a quick search of the internet will provide dozens of forms of future forecasting. Some use astrology, some use other methods.

We employ a technique based on radical linguistics to reduce extracts from readings of dynamic postings on the internet into an archetypical database. With this database of archetypical language, we calculate the rate of change of the language. The forecasts of the future are derived from these calculations. Our calculations are based on a system of associations between words and numeric values for emotional responses from those words. These 'emotional impact indicators' are also of our own devising. They are attached to a data base of over 300,000 words. This database of linked words/phrases and emotions is our lexicon from which the future forecasting is derived.

AGI Alert: DARPA Wants "Novel" Quintillion-Scale Computers

        Omnipresent High Performance Computing (OHPC)

"All current DoD sensors, platforms, and missions heavily depend on computer systems - from in-field distributed sensors to complex weapons system simulations.

To meet the relentlessly increasing demands for greater performance, higher energy efficiency, ease of programmability, system dependability, and security, revolutionary new research, development, and design will be essential to enable new generations of advanced TransAlchemy computing system capabilities and new classes of computer applications.

Current evolutionary approaches to progress in computer designs are inadequate.

To pursue these capabilities, DARPA is releasing a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for the Omnipresent High Performance Computing (OHPC) program.

Novel proposals for research and development in technical areas and for approaches that will dramatically advance the performance and capabilities of future computing systems and enable ExtremeScale computing are sought. Evolutionary research will not be selectable.

This solicitation is intended to provide novel technologies and approaches that provide significant advances for the system design activities being performed under the DARPA Ubiquitous High Performance Computing (UHPC) program."

The repeated use of the word "novel" in DARPA's solicitation seems to emphasize a desire to accelerate technological growth.

"It predicts the ebb and flow of novelty in the universe as an inherent quality of time. McKenna developed the theory in the mid-1970s after his experiences in the Amazon at La Chorrera led him to closely study the King Wen sequence of the I-Ching. Novelty theory involves ontology, extropy, and eschatology.

The theory proposes that the universe is an engine designed for the production and conservation of novelty. Novelty, in this context, can be thought of as newness, or extropy (a term coined by Max Moremeaning the opposite of entropy). According to McKenna, when novelty is graphed over time, a fractalwaveform known as "timewave zero" or simply the "timewave" results. The graph shows at what time periods, but never at what locations, novelty increases or decreases and is supposed to represent a model of history's most important events."
